Welcome

Welcome to Speculations Editing Services! I am so glad that you came by. I’m very excited to be venturing out on this new part of my career. In a way, it feels like coming home to an old friend.

First, you should know that when you hire me, you are getting an editor with decades of experience in many parts of the publishing industry. I have been a full-time freelance editor for the last 16 of those years. I have always received good feedback from clients, no matter what area I have worked in. My focus is on the words, on helping them work together to make the complete work do what it was intended to do: engage the reader. Although up to this point I have focused on academic editing, my emphasis has shifted to fiction editing.

You see, I’ve been reading and writing genre fiction for almost as long as I can remember. I remember picking up Stephen R. Donaldson’s The Power that Preserves at age 14 and getting hooked on epic fantasy. My loves of romance, mystery, and paranormal/urban fantasy came later but are no less gripping. It’s not only that—I’ve been helping friends and fellow writers with their own fiction for just about as long, from helping fellow students in high school and college to writing and feedback exchanges with the members of Critters way back in the mid-1990s to helping fellow writers in a local writer’s group today.

The difference now is that I can put my experience in the publishing industry, my many years as a freelance copyeditor, and my continuing education in fiction editing into play so that I can help my clients as well as they work through the journey of developing, honing, and publishing their books and stories.

Contact me now. I can’t wait to get started!
